English Monograph Rock Engineering Design jointly written by Professor Feng Xiating, director of State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Institution of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Wuhan, CAS, and John A Hudson, fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, professor of Imperial College London, is published by CRC Press of Taylor & Francis Group on June 20, 2011.

The book introduces a new design method applied to all kinds of rock engineering(including surface and underground), to help design, it offers guidance in modeling essence, modeling procedure, information needed and technical audit procedure of modeling and design. Meanwhile, it describes and explains how to use computer program, how to do model calibration by field observation, how to interpret calculation result and virtual underground laboratory. It adopts the design and construction of a rock slope and a large scale underground factory as engineering example, describe the method operation in details, and includes technical review forms along with cases. Rock Engineering Design makes it easier to apply theory to operation.

Rock Engineering Design is an instruction book with illustration and pictures, it is a useful reference book applicable to engineers, contractors, customers, researchers, teachers and postgraduate specialize in geotechnical engineering such as civil engineering, mining, geology engineering and structural engineering. It discusses about multiple new technology methods and predict the developing prospect of these technologies in the aspects of calculating ability, natural resource and so on, the book includes thorough study on a case about a rock slope and an underground hydropower factory, it uses protocol form to do technical audit and is supported by practical cases, in addition, it provides all the basic terminology and rock classification as well as comprehensive references.
