On Oct 9, Academician CHEN Zuyu from China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research visits IRSM as the guest speaker at Rock and Soil Mechanics and Engineering Academic Forum, he delivers a speech with the title Cascade Reservoir Risk Analysis and Safe Design Standard.

Academician CHEN begins his speech with the concept of cascade reservoir, he then elaborates on the construction situation, hazard risk, key scientific problems and disaster prevention of cascade reservoirs. CHEN displays a series of theory innovation research achievements including the reliability of cascade reservoir risk analysis and Bayes. He analyzes the level division standard with details. CHEN introduces the preliminary design and project application research achievements with example projects. After his report, academician CHEN has a deep communication with researchers and students about rock and soil engineering stability and risk analysis method.

Academician CHEN Zuyu is a famous expert on water resource, hydropower and civil engineering, senior engineer in China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research. He is now a member of China Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering and China Civil Engineering Society. CHEN has long been engaged in research on slope stability theory and numerical analysis. He wins the Second Prize and Third Prize of National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, and MAO Yisheng Award for Soil Mechanics and Basic Project. CHEN worked as expert for many famous projects including the Three Gorges and Xiaolangdi Dam. He puts forward solutions to landslide in large scale projects, and develops slope stability analysis software STAB.
