Professor CHEN Zhenghan from Logistic Engineering University of PLA attends the Academic Forum of Rock and Soil Mechanics and Engineering on May 22, he makes a report with the title, Thoughts about the Scientific Research Methods and Theory Model of Soil Mechanics. Deputy Director ZHENG Hong from State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Deputy Director KONG Lingwei and more than 40 teachers and students from IRSM are present at the report meeting, which is hosted by researcher CHEN Shanxiong.

Professor CHEN Zhenghan elaborates on the definition, effect and structure of soil mechanics theory model at the beginning of his report, he then introduces probable problems in theory model establishment, modeling method, modeling process and correction model method. With the example of unsaturated soil, CHEN gives a detailed introduction about the construction method and process of non-linear constitutive model of unsaturated soil.

Professor CHEN summarizes his model construction experiences with humorous languages. He believes that practice is the sole criterion for testing truth. With his rich scientific research experiences, CHEN gives 10 suggestions in innovative research in rock and soil mechanics, including using instruments as a guide in exploring new field; establishing new theory; and attaching importance to calculation.

Professor CHEN Zhenghan is doctoral supervisor of Logistic Engineering University of PLA; one of the academic founders of unsaturated soil. He has published more than 200 papers.
