In the morning on May 19, the Science and Technology Popularization Group from Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics (IRSM) attend the 2013 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Activity Week Startup ceremony held in Renmin Plaza in Xiangyang.

With the organization and lead of Hubei Province government, the Science and Technology Activity Week Working Group of IRSM is set up under the support from State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. The Working Group makes exhibition boards to show the popular science knowledge and the latest scientific research progress. By hanging slogans and putting up posters, the Working Group creates an good science popularization atmosphere.

Different from activities held in the previous years, the Activity Week Setup Ceremony is held in Xiangyang. With the lead of HUANG Lixing, members of the Working Group communicate enthusiastically with citizens attending the activity. Focusing on the topic of Green Science and Technology, Green Life, members from the Working Group propagate science and technology knowledge and scientific spirit with high enthusiasm.

After the Activity Week, IRSM will open several laboratories and innovation bases from May 19 to 26, including State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Hubei Provincial Innovation Base of Environmental Rock and Soil Engineering Technology of Energy Saving and Eco-friendly Industry, Hubei Provincial Research Center of Solid Waste Safe Disposal and Ecological Higher Value Engineering. IRSM will introduce the laboratory and exhibit science and technology platform to the public. The introduction will focus on the disposal and ecological landfill technology and city domestic waste. IRSM will also use gallery to propagate professional knowledge to visitors, organize science popularization lectures, and open laboratories for visitors to understand relevant science and technology knowledge.
