In the morning on March 13, the Acoustic Emission Training is organized in meeting room 401 in the Science and Research Building in Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics (IRSM). Engineer KONG Delian from Physical Acoustic Corp. (PAC) is invited to the training class, more than 30 scientific researchers and postgraduates are present at the technology training class.

With the further study on acoustic emission of rock and soil material, the research of acoustic emission is attracting much more attention. IRSM bought various sensors from PAC in recent years, and is buying an acoustic emission instrument from PAC this month. By analyzing the AE signal from rock loading process, the instrument could infer the change inside rocks and inverse rock failure mechanism. Through locating test, the instrument is able to understand the local micro fracture inside rock caused by tensile stress from local damage in the process of stressing and unloading. With the increase of stress, the local micro fracture increases as well, forming severe damage area inside the rock mess. As the crack density of the damage area is much bigger than background areas, the instrument could test the higher frequency of severe damage area and study on rock mess stressing damage rule.

Engineer KONG Delian from PAC elaborates on the instrument structure, software application, operational principle and operation steps. He has deep communication with researchers and postgraduates at the class. KONG also illustrates problems existing in the application of acoustic emission instrument. Afterwards, KONG demonstrates the instrument operation to YANG Chun and other researchers in MTS laboratory; YANG puts forward precious suggestions to relevant testing.
