Professors from China University of Geosciences Giving Lectures in IRSM

On Dec 17, Professor SU Aijun, and HU Xinli are invited by Deputy Director SHENG Qian from IRSM to give lectures in IRSM, the symposium is hosted by Director JIAO Yuyong of Science and Research Planning Department, more than 40 researchers and undergraduates including Deputy Chairman ZHENG Hong of State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering are all present at the symposium.

Professor SU Aijun gives a lecture with the title Geological Disasters Prevention Situation of Three Gorges Reservoir. Professor SU summarizes the geological disaster types and development level of Three Gorges, he points out the necessarily of disaster prevention. Through engineering examples, Professor SU analyzes the geological disaster prevention plan and situation at the present stage. 

Professor HU Xinli gives a lecture with the title Study on Landslide Stability and the Effectiveness of Landslide Control under the Condition of Reservoir Operation. She introduces research achievements of landslide stability and effectiveness of landslide control under the condition of reservoir operation. Professor HU explains the numerical stimulation scheme of water level fluctuation stimulation; she also elaborates the scheme with two engineering examples, including loess slope landslide and JinLe landslide. Professor HU compares the numerical stimulation results of landslide control effectiveness under two conditions, one is the long term periodic water level fluctuation only affected by dead load, the other is the four period water level fluctuation. Concluding from the comparison, Professor HU finds out that under the long term periodic water level fluctuation, the slide control effect of anti-sliding pile falls gradually, therefore, this factor should be taken into consideration in anti-sliding project design.

The symposium participants are impressed by the professors’ lecture and their research achievements. After the symposium, participants have enthusiastic communication with the professors.
