On June 14, the Initiating Meeting of the project Deep Engineering Disaster Formation Mechanism, Prevention and Control is held in Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics(IRSM)of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS). Deep Engineering Disaster Formation Mechanism, Prevention and Control is the third subject of CAS key project Typical Geological Disaster Prediction,Prevention and Control. The meeting is hosted by SHI Genhua, the experts group leader of the subject, and IRSM Vice Director KONG Lingwei. More than 40 leaders, researchers and postgraduates are present at the initiating meeting.

FAN Weiming, head of Bureau of Science and Technology for Resource and Environment, starts the meeting with the introduction of project initiation background and relevant requirements from CAS. FAN stresses that Typical Geological Disaster Prediction,Prevention and Control is the key project with strong supports on research expenses and staff investment from CAS; he also mentions that this is a difficult project with complex content. Researchers are expected to focus on the overall target, and take full advantage of experts group in further communication and discussion. A full set of research platform will be established to solve key scientific problems of deep engineering disaster. The project leader LI Haibo demonstrates the general information of this project then. Afterwards, researcher FENG Xiating reports on the subject research contents, general target and its technical route, followed by introduction of implementation scheme, expected goals and preliminary research progress made by sub-project leaders.

After fully affirmed the research significance, content, work plan and management mode of this subject, the experts group puts forward good suggestions about the disadvantages. A academic seminar is then held to fully discuss the management scheme.
