The main purpose of the project is to study the mechanical properties of rock and structural plane of rock mass in deep and to suggest a method to get macro mechanical parameters of rock mass. The mechanical property of marble under the pre-peak and post-peak unloading confining pressure is studied by laboratory test, theoretical research and numerical simulation. The strength criterion for marble in general exponent form under unloading confining pressure is obtained based on the test results. A new damage mechanics model for structural plane is put forward from shear test result. The fracture coalescence mechanism and strength characteristics of rock which has different flaws in 3D are also studied through laboratory test. A new nonlinear damage model and its evolution equation for rock mass under high stress are obtained. In addition, the permeability of intact marble is obtained by using the most advanced T-M-PTS temperature- Mechanics-Permeability Test System). Base on the test results of marble and structural plane, the scale effect of marble’s macro mechanic characters is further studied by numerical simulation, the scale effect on elastic modulus and strength of marble in Jinping is put forward. The achievements from the research work provide a practical method to decide macro mechanical parameters for marble in Jinping power station.
