Safe Disposal of Municipal Solid Waste Fly Ash Passing Project Appraisal

On June 15, Safe Disposal of Municipal Solid Waste Fly Ash, the project jointly accomplished by Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics(IRSM) and Wuhan ZHIHENG Environmental Safety Engineering Technology, passes the science and technology achievement appraisal organized by Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Department. The appraisal committee consists of 7 experts including Director XU Minghou from State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion.

Municipal solid waste fly ash is with complicated constituents, great toxicity, high content of heavy metal and dioxin; it is also are harmful to surrounding environment, and the disposal cost is high. The Safe Disposal of Municipal Solid Waste(MSW) Fly Ash project focuses on solving these major engineering technology problems. It studies the interaction mechanism of heavy metal and reagent, and the stabilization of heavy metal consolidation in MSW fly ash. With systematic research on consolidation reaction mechanism of heavy metal and cementing material, process parameters optimization and industrial test, the project has formed a set of material, technique and control technology of heavy metal gelation consolidation stabilization disposal of MSW fly ash, providing key technology support and guarantee of safe MSW fly ash disposal in China.

After listening to the research report from the project team and asking questions about the research project, experts from the appraisal committee come to an agreement that the research achievements are paving a new way in implementing the new standard in the safe, eco-friendly and efficient disposal of MSW fly ash, it solves the major strategy problems in current state environment protection. The research achievements win multiple independent intellectual property rights, and are applied in domestic MSW fly ash disposal projets successfully. The research achievements are with crucial project application value and promotion prospect, they have reached the international advanced technology level.
