Recently, Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering gain support from 2011-2012 Annual Special Foundation For Key Academy Journal of National Natural Science Foundation, the foundation number is 51024805; Journal will be supported 240,000 yuan every two years. This is the second time that Journal wins support from this foundation, following the one gained in 2009-2010. Winning the foundation shows approval and support to Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, encourages the development and establishment of high quality periodical.

Special Foundation for Key Academy Journal of National Natural Science Foundation is a special foundation set for raising national academy journal level by National Natural Science Foundation of China. The review of this foundation bases on the principles of Rely on experts, Develop democracy, Support the best, Be fair and reasonable. The special foundation deal with applications in every even number year. In 2010, Special Foundation for Key Academy Journal of National Natural Science Foundation received 70 applications totally, increasing by 21% compared to 2008. Departments of Science organizes initial review according to application requests, then experts will be organized in a review meeting, 36 journals will be selected to get support from this special foundation. The comprehensive review standards are as follows:

　　1. Main data indexes of journals: retrieval data of JCR, CJCR and CSCD(such as impact factors, general cited rates, etc)

　　2. International competitiveness: subject advantage and academy influence, composition of editorial committee, contribution from abroad, contribution review mechanism,  retrieval rate and citing rate by main data bases from home and abroad.

　　3.Journal developing potentialities: development in recent years, member composition of the journal, journal publication condition, editorial and publication quality, network service, previous assistance condition.

36 journals will be supported by the foundation for 2 years, according to the different type of these journals, the support is separately 80,000 yuan per year, 100,000 yuan per year and 120,000 yuan per year, the total supporting amount is 8,360,000 yuan.
