English Version of Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering is the first English journal in rock mechanics and rock and soil engineering field in China, the journal is jointly sponsored by IRSM(Wuhan), CAS, Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering and Wuhan University. It reflects new achievements, new theories, new methods, new experiences and new improvements of rock mechanics and rock and soil engineering at home and abroad, especially in China. The journal emphasizes on introduction of important scientific research achievements of major national engineering program and national basic program research.

With the great support from CAS, the publication application is started in March 2008; in July 2008, the publication is approved by Hubei Provincial Press and Publication Bureau. Then in August 2009, it is approved by General Administration of Press and Publication of China. The First Issue of Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering English version is published in October 2009.

It is the wish of several generations of Chinese rock and soil engineering experts to publish English journal, in order to increase the academic level and quality of the journal, sponsors and the journal office make joint effort to establish interaction and exchange platform for international rock, rock and soil engineering, basing on the spirit of realistic and innovative, active exploration and overcoming difficulties, they create first class international and professional journal.
