On Oct 19, the 13th National Academic Congress on Rock Mechanics opens in Chongqing University. QIAN Qihu, President of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME); FENG Xiating, President of International Society of Rock Mechanics; leaders from Chongqing University and more than 200 experts are all present at the opening ceremony. The Opening Ceremony is hosted by Professor ZHOU Xiaoping, Executive President of the academic congress.

OU Keping, secretary of the Party committee, delivers a welcome speech on behalf of Chongqing University. Director LI Haibo from IRSM delivers an opening speech and elaborates on the recent work of CSRME. President QIAN Qihu gives a brief introduction of the latest research projects in rock mechanics field.

About 48 representatives makes academic reports at the main meeting room and branch meeting room. Academician QIAN Qihu, ZHENG Yingshi, Professor FENG Xiating, FANG Qin, MA Guowei are invited to make special invited reports in the main meeting room. 16 famous scholars including JIANG Mingjing deliver reports in the main meeting room as well. 28 representatives make reports in branch meeting room. The report topics include rock mechanics characteristics and constitutive relation; stress wave propagation and decay law; rock burst mechanism; rock blasting fragmentation mechanism; numerical analysis, stimulation, testing method and technology of rock mechanics; and application of rock mechanics.

The congress receives more than 150 papers, 138 of them are recommended to Rock and Soil Mechanics and Chinese Journal of Underground Space and Engineering. After expert review, 15 papers are published on Rock and Soil Mechanics journal and 15 papers are published on its supplementary issue. 30 papers are published on Chinese Journal of Underground Space and Engineering. 7 young scholars including PAN Junfeng win the Outstanding Paper Award on the congress.
