National Science and Technology Award meeting is held by Central Committee and the State Council on Feb 14. 374 projects and 10 experts are announced winners of National Science and Technology Award of 2011. Three achievements hosted or parted accomplished by Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics(IRSM), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) receive The Second Prize of National Science and Technology Award.

Key Technology and Application of Deep Salt-Caverns Underground Gas Storage Construction, accomplished by researcher YANG Chun win The Second Prize of National Science and Technology Award. To solve major technological problems including poor cavity shape controllability in water solution of building gas storage in layered rock salt, and the influence mechanism of interlayer to cavity stability and tightness, the project studies on water solution in layered rock salt mine, operation parameter design and key technology of underground gas storage. Several research achievements are included in 3 industry standards. The project also provides science and technology support to location of oil and gas underground storage in layered rock salt, cavity parameter design, water solution construction and gas storage operation. The achievements are already promoted and used in underground gas storage of West-east Gas Transmission Project.

The other 2 achievements are Highway Construction Technology with Complicated Topography and Geology Condition and Unfavorable Geology Advance Prediction, Quantitative Identification and Key Disaster Prevention Technology.
