The research accomplished by IRSM, CAS (Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) has play a important role in the feasibility demonstration and verification of the first salt rock gas storage in West to East Gas Pipeline Project of China.

At present, the achievements have entered the salt rock gas storage construction specification edit by China National Petroleum Corporation which has become the primary evidence in design and construction of new underground cavern.

The obtaining of the achievements is of great practical significance to the application of strategic petroleum storage, carbon sequestration and compressed air energy storage in laminated salt rock.
