On Nov 26th, the Fifth Chen Zongji Lecture is held in Wuhan, jointly hosted by Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, IRSM, State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Rock and Soil Mechanics. Academician Ge Xiurun from IRSM is the main speaker of the Lecture, he reports on The New Method of BWSRM Three Dimensional Geo Stress Measurement and Application of Well Logging Robot in Major Project.

Professor Qian Qihu(Board chairman of Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering) and Researcher Feng Xiating(President of ISRM, Director of State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and Chief Editor of Rock and Soil Mechanics) host the lecture; More than 70 professors and experts from colleges, institutes and enterprises are present at the lecture, including Zheng Yingren, academician of CAE; Professor Zhu Ruigeng, Wang Jingtao, etc.In addition, Zhu Yaozhong, Director of Wuhan Branch; Li Haibo, Director of IRSM, Secretary Wang Daguo, Vice Director Kong Lingwei and other scientific researchers also participate in the lecture.

Academician Ge Xiurun specializes in research on rock mass engineering and numerical analysis, as well as test technology and basic mechanical properties of rock mass; Ge and his colleagues developed 100T and 200T hydraulic pillows successfully for the first time in China in 1963; He operated one-block method experiment for the first time ; In 1970s, he worked on Nonlinear Analysis of 511 Engineering Underground Cave Group, which was the first domestic large-scale underground engineering application of finite element, then he put forward vector and method of stability analysis and rock brittle-plasticity; Ge developed hydraulic servo rock mechanical multifunctional machine, which is with advanced international technology; He leaded the development of Digital Panoramic Borehole Camera System which won the Gold Prize of The 13th National Invention Exhibition; In 1999, Ge Xiurun worked as the hoster of the research of triaxial loading equipment for CT scanning rock and soil failure process test under normal and negative temperature, developing new method of understanding rock and soil failure process; In 2001, Ge put forward proposal for Original Site Preservation Program of Bai-He-Liang Ancient Hydrological Inscription, which was adopted then; the new ground stress test method invented by Ge Xiurun was tested in Jinping Construction Site successfully in 2010; Academician Ge have also contributed a lot to many large scale project constructions, including DaYe Iron Mine, Hydroelectric Station of Gezhouba, Three Gorges Project. Ge Xiurun is awarded more than 20 national and provincial prizes, owning 21 patents. He published more than 100 academic essays on journals from home and abroad, not including 2 monographs. In 1978, Ge was awarded National Advanced Worker on National Science Conference, he got the title of Young Expert with Outstanding Contribution, Ge was elected academician of CAS in 1995.  Ge reviewed the research process and development status of earth stress measurement in his lecture, commenting principles, advantages and disadvantages of different stress measurement and earth stress field stimulation methods. He emphasizes on the basic principle of the new method of BWSRM three dimensional geo stress measurement, application of well logging robot in major project, and application achievement in Jinping second-cascade hydropower station. Ge Xiurun's lecture attracts great interests of the audiences, they discuss on advanced topics and engineering application topics about ground stress measurement enthusiastically.

Academician Ge Xiurun received prize cup, money award and flowers from Qian Qihu, Li Haibo and graduate students IRSM.

Chen Zongji Lecture was set to memorialize the famous researcher Chen Zongji, who is the expert of rock and soil mechanics, founder of domestic rock and soil mechanics and engineering subject, the first Board chairman of Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, academician of CAS and formal Vice Director of IRSM. The lecture is held every year, inviting famous experts with outstanding contribution to the subject development of rock and soil mechanics and engineering, they will give special lectures with topics related to their representative achievements. Until now, the lecture has invited Sun Jun, Wang Sijing, Qian Qihu, Zhou Weiheng giving lectures as follows, Nonlinear Rock Rheological Mechanics, Geology Essence of Rock and Explanation with Rock Mechanics, Some Advance of Rock Explosion dynamics, Stability of Rock Mass Engineering Structure.
