On the morning of May 18, High-end Forum of Scientific and Technological Developing Strategy of International Engineering Projects-Safe Construction and Risk Management of Major Underground Engineering Projects is held in Wuhan. The forum is hosted by Chinese Academy of Science, and jointly organized by Division of Engineering Management of CAS, Division of Civil Hydraulic and Architecture Engineering of CAS, Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of CAS. More than 27 academicians, 200 scholars and representatives are present at the forum.
The international high-end forum is one of the activities of 2012 High-end Forum of Scientific and Technological Developing Strategy of International Engineering Projects held by Chinese Academy of Science. The forum focus on the problems in safe construction and risk management of major underground engineering projects under complicated geological and environmental conditions. Experts will discuss the scientific and technological developing strategies of international engineering in the next 10 to 20 years. The forum has invited famous experts in rock and soil engineering, railway engineering, hydraulic engineering, and earthquake prevention and disaster reduction engineering to join the discussion. Strategic and prospective topics will be discussed from different dimensions. With the subject cross and integration, the experts are expected to find out strategies of studying, predicting and early-warning underground space disaster mechanism and underground engineering project under complicated geological environment. The achievements of the forum discussion will promote the new methods of underground engineering disaster prediction, prevention and risk management, as well as the independent innovation and breakthrough of new theory, new method and new technology.
The opening ceremony is hosted by Professor FENG Xiating, the Director of State Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and the President of ISRM. ZHOU Ji, the President of Chinese Academy of Science, makes an opening speech.GUO Shenglian, the Vice Governor of Hubei Province, gives an welcoming speech. Academician QIAN Qihu, the Board Chairman of Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, and Hudson, fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, deliver their speech separately.
Eighteen academician and experts from home and abroad give brilliant speeches in two days. On the afternoon of May 19, academician and experts are present at the high-end seminar of the forum. They discuss about the safe construction and risk management of major underground engineering in the next 20 years, focusing on a series of problems from safe culture construction to safe implement of engineering technology. The experts study the theory innovation, technology innovation and strategies combined with Chinese engineering characteristics, putting forward suggestions to safe construction and risk management of major underground engineering. President ZHOU Ji also gives an important speech on the seminar.
Before the forum meeting, Secretary LI Hongzhong, Governor WANG Guosheng, and Vice Governor GUO Shenglian of Hubei province have visited the academician and experts.
