First International Workshop on Geomechanics of Shale Gas held Successfully

From May 15th to 17th, first international workshop on geomechanics of shale gas, which was co-organized by IRSM and University of Waterloo, held successfully at IRSM. 

There were more than 60 experts, scholars and students attend the workshop, including the researchers and professors from University of Waterloo, University of Alberta, The Pennsylvania State University, Southern Illinois University, IRSM, Chongqing University, China University of Petroleum, Taiyuan University of Technology.

This workshop covered the study of energy storage of underground salt rock and exploitation of shale gas. At the opening ceremony, chairman YANG Chunhe welcomed the domestic and international experts, and hoped to establish a good friendship in this academic exchange. In the workshop, Maurice, Dusseault, Pierre Bérest, Nicholas Harris, Luis F. Ayala H., Satya Harpalani, Shimin Liu, Nicholas Harris, LIANG Weiguo, LI Jianjun, HUANG Xiaolan and other experts delivered reports around the topic of workshop. During the rest of the workshop, Researcher YANG Chunhe led the experts to visit the laboratories and introduced the experimental equipment, and made in-depth exchange on the issues.

This workshop delivers the latest scientific research information on international shale gas exploitation and underground salt rock energy storage, strengthens the international academic exchanges and cooperation between each country, plays a positive role in promoting the research of future energy issues.
