On March 25th, the first East Lake Forum was held in IRSM. There are 19 graduate students, 7 research fellows, post-doctorals and other young researchers deliver excellent reports. They study theory research, test methods, simulation methods and academic thoughts in the rock and soil mechanics and engineering disciplines field. Deputy Director of IRSM researcher SHENG Qian and Director of CAS Wuhan Education Program DU Yongcheng give opening speeches. Four young teachers, LI Yinping, LU Zheng, YANG Diansen, JIANG Quan are the guests for giving comments. There are more than 80 students participate in this activity.

The 26 reporters are from 20 different discipline teams, they have different academic backgrounds, research directions, and research methods. Each reporter combines with current or recent projects and research, explain each topic. After each report, teachers give briefly reviews and guidance, the audiences question in a heated discussion.

East Lake Forum is an academic forum of CAS Wuhan Education Program, now is developing to a self-organized academic exchange platform for young researchers. IRSM takes the leading in carrying out this activity. The purpose of this forum is to promote the communication among different discipline groups, and provide a free and equal exchange platform for academic thoughts, theoretical perspectives and academic inspiration.
