From April 13th to 15th, Seminar on Metallurgical Mine Waste Dump Design, Research and Development, and the Second Compiling Conference of Metallurgical Mine Waste Dump Design Standard are held in Wuhan IRSM and Huangpi. The conference and seminar are jointly organized by Wuhan IRSM and Northern Engineering and Technology Corporation (NETC). About 30 experts from scientific research institutes, design corporations and production companies are invited to attend the conference. The opening ceremony is hosted by LI Haibo, Director of IRSM, and ZHANG Chengjin, Associate Manager of NETC.

The conference includes expert reports and discussion. Participants communicate with each other the latest trends and experiences in waste dump design, construction, safety, and environment protection. Experts give theme lectures separately on the conference, including Key Problems and Stability Analysis of Waste Dump Based on FEP, from LI Xiaochun, researcher from Wuhan IRSM, CAS; Study on Granular Mixtures Slope Self-Organized Criticality and Its Application, from YAO Lingkai, Professor of Southwest Jiaotong University; Safety and Environment of Waste Dump, from FANG Dingwang, Vice Director of Sino Steel Maanshan Institute of Mining Research. Other experts give special reports including Waste Dump Stability Analysis, Waste Dump Destroy Mechanism, Safety Classification and Control, Safety Countermeasures of Waste Dump under Complex Conditions.

In China, there is no unified and systematic design standard to follow, the current standards are not able to meet the needs of dumping technology. The successful held of the conference marks the mature of Metallurgical Mine Waste Dump Design Standard. It helps the dumping technology progress, and design quality enhancement. The conference also helps to gain high economic and social benefits.
