The 12th National Academic Conference on Rock Mechanics of China and ISRM Rock Dynamics Workshop are held in the Exchange Centre of China University of Mining and Technology in Beijing on 15th- 17th October, 2011. The Conference and Workshop are hosted by Rock Dynamics Commission of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, organized by China University of Mining and Technology. The theme of this meeting is Innovation&International. More than 150 people attend the meeting, including experts, scholars, science&engineering technicians from China, Singapore, Norway, Swiss, Canada and Taiwan, teachers and students from China University of Mining and Technology are also present.

Professor Pan Yishan, the president of Liaoning Technical University, vice-chairmen of Rock Dynamics Commission, hosts the meeting and delivers an opening speech. Professor Jiang Yaodong, vice president of China University of Mining and Technology, chairman of Conference Organizing Committee makes welcoming speech. Academician Qian Qihu, the board chairman of Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering; and Doctor Zhou Yingxin, chairman of Rock Dynamics Commission, president of Singapore Group of ISRM also gives speech on the meeting. Invited lectures are delivered by Professor Jiang Yaodong, Professor Pan Yishan, Professor Chu Zehan, Professor Tang Chun'an, Professor Ma Guowei and Professor Wang Mingyang. More than 20 scholars including Professor Li Chunlin make reports on the meeting. Representatives communicate wildly on topics they are interested in, creating lively academic atmosphere.

The meeting receives 142 contributions in total, 25 articles are selected to be published on the journal and supplement of Chinese Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, 43 articles are published on the supplement of Journal of Coal Science&Engineering. 5 articles, including one from Guo Junzhi, are awarded as the best essay.

The meeting is held at the same time as The 12th ISRM International Congress on Rock Mechanics, which is held in China National Convention Centre. Some of the representatives attend the international meeting as well. Researcher Li Jianchun and Professor Qi Chengzhi deliver theme reports on ISRM Rock Dynamics Workshop.

The forth session of the 6th Rock Dynamics Commission is held during the conference.
