Jointly organized by CRD (ISRM Commission on Rock Dynamics) and IRSM, CAS (Institute of Rock and Soil mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences), the ISRM Rock Dynamics Workshop was held in Wuhan on Dec 11 to 13.
“Suggested Methods for Determining the Dynamic Strength Parameters and Fracture Toughness of Rock Materials”, a draft of four suggested methods for rock dynamics testing: dynamic compression, dynamic tension, dynamic bending and dynamic fracture had been discussed in details during this workshop. Over 30 worldwide researchers were gathered to share and exchange their experiences on rock dynamics tests.
New Dynamic testing methods had also been discussed for future suggested methods and reseach. These topics include: Method to obtain the full dynamic stress-strain cure, Dynamic punch shear test for measuring dynamic shear strength, Dynamic direct tension tests using spilt Hopkinson tension bar.
Participants had also visit the rock dynamic testing laboratory at the Central South University in Changsha and accomplished several tests related to the suggested methods.
