Two proposals were received to hold the 12th ISRM International Congress, in 2011: from the Chinese and Singapore National Groups, in Beijing; and from Korea, in Seoul. As an important part of the bid activity, IRSM, CAS (Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) has taken a full attention and preparation for it. Elaborate organization and hard works gives the bid a perfect support. “To let IRSM conducting the bid work is a right chose.” Academia Qihu Qian, vice president of ISRM (International Society for Rock Machanics) said with full of joy after the victory of the bid.

The 12th ISRM Congress is the highest level international academic conference on rock mechanics which holds every four years. As the “Olympic” of rock mechanics, it had been only held once in Asia in 1995, Japan. “The victory is very important for China, if we miss it this time, we will miss it for almost 40 years.” Prof. Xia-ting Feng speaks, “we have to do every best we can to make it.”

On 16 May, 2005, Brno, Czech Republic, two teams started their competition in the cold wind of Brno. At last, red Chinese ties, Chinese traditional music and claps make the moment forever. Bejing, China has to host the 12th ISRM Congress in 2011.
