On Jun 1st, Dr. ZHANG Qianbing from Monash University visits IRSM and delivers a report with the title Mechanical Behaviour of Rock Materials at High Strain Rates and Pressures. Researcher LI Jianchun from IRSM attends and hosts the report.
Dr. ZHANG Qianbing surroundings mechanical properties under high strain rate, from three aspects carries on the detailed introduction: laboratory test's measurement technology, correlation of rate of material and material fracture of meso-scale. He shows a variety of research of rock dynamic damage measurement methods and laboratory equipments, including 3D Hopkinson pressure bar test system, ultra high speed dynamic camera, high resolution CT scanners and digital image processing technology, he introduces in detail the failure mechanism of rock material under the mesoscopic scale. During the report, Dr. ZHANG around dynamic fracture toughness of materials, which are under instable status, has a discussion with Researcher ZHENG Hong, and exchange views for the differences between the destruction mechanism of materials which is under dynamic and static status with many attendees.
Dr. ZHANG Qianbing got PhD at Lausanne Federal Polytechnic University (EPFL: école Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) in 2014, after that he did his postdoctoral research at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich) and Cavendish Laboratory in University of Cambridge. He works at Department of Civil Engineering in the Monash University in 2015. Dr. ZHANG Qianbing long engaged in rock dynamics, rock dynamic response measurement technology under high strain rate and the mechanism of deep rock excavation induced earthquake related research. He serves as reviewer for international well-known SCI journal, such as International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Science, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, published 10 SCI essays, A Review of the Dynamic Experimental Techniques and Mechanical Behaviour of Rock Materials which is published in the journal of Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, is cited more than 30 times in the first year of publishing. His doctoral thesis won the international rock mechanics 2016 Rocha Medal silver Medal (only two or three in each year), the prize is the highest prize of outstanding doctor graduates for rock mechanics reward.
