Doctor XU Zhonghua, the Chief Science Representative in China of TOTAL visits IRSM on July 23. He delivers an academic report with the title The Future of Energy: Challenges and Perspectives.

With the energy exploitation and environment protection projects of TOTAL all over the world, Xu introduces the technology of petroleum exploitation, shale gas exploitation, CO2 storage, oil sand mining, nuclear energy and clean energy. Basing on the conditions in China, Doctor Xu analyzes the difficulties in domestic shale gas exploitation and present situation of offshore oil exploitation. At the end of his speech, Xu introduces the TOTAL scientific research team, TOTAL Science Forum in China, TOTAL Professor Association, and TOTAL Summer Camp.

With the international perspective, Doctor XU analyzes the current situation, problems and development trend of energy around the world. He has a lively discussion with teachers and students from IRSM about related problems. Doctor XU visits State Key Laboratory of Rock and Soil Mechanics after his speech.

XU Zhonghua graduated from Tsinghua University with his Bachelor’s Degree in 1996; he got Doctor’s Degree in Tsinghua University in 2001. Doctor XU worked in the University of Tokyo from 2001 to 2008, he was engaged in research on high density integration technology of microelectronic system, he cooperated with more than 20 semiconductor companies including SONY and TOSHIBA. XU set up Wuxi Institute of Microelectronic Packaging and Green Design in 2003. He was in charge of the establishment of Wuxi Representative Office of the University of Tokyo in 2005. Doctor XU joined TOTAL China in 2008 and served as the Chief Scientific Research Representative in China, he is in charge of the research of energy and chemical industry in China. XU is also the initiator of the First International Conference of Green Electronics.
