On Sep 24th, Doctor Mark Randolph visits IRSM as the Einstein Chair Professor of CAS and gives a brilliant academic report. Doctor Randolph is the founder of COFS in University of Western Australia.

Doctor Randolph introduces the research progress of COFS in the field of offshore structural basis, including the application of analytical method in the interaction of offshore single pile, pile group and surrounding soil; the application of analytical method in the interaction of submarine oil and gas transport pipeline and seabed soil. Doctor Randolph also show the research achievements of numerical method used in the interaction between offshore pipeline and seabed soil.

The symposium is hosted by researcher WEI Changfu, Vice President of National Key Laboratory of Rock and Soil Mechanics and Engineering. More than 50 researchers and postgraduates from IRSM are present at the symposium, they have active academic discussion with Doctor Randolph after the report.

Doctor Mark Randolph is the founder and the first director of COFS in University of Western Australia. He makes outstanding achievements in the mechanics analysis theory and engineering application of marine engineering structure basic system. He is involved in research fields including geotechnical centrifuge model test, numerical calculation and plasticity theoretical analysis. He has published two books with his parterners, including Offshore Geotechnical Engineering that is published recently, he has also published more 200 papers. Doctor Randolph has developed the analysis theory and engineering design method of sea platform pile base bearing, puts forward new in situ penetration testing technology, releases the interaction mechanism of sea engineering structure basis and calcareous seabed. Doctor Randolph has promoted the marine oil and gas resource exploitation.

Doctor Mark Randolph was selected as Fellow of Australian Academy of Engineering(1993), Fellow of Australian Academy of Sciences(2000), Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering(2002), Fellow of the Royal Society(2011). The international awards he received are as follows, In 2003, Doctor Randolph was awarded Centenary Medal by Premier of Australia; In 2005, he won John Booker Medal awarded by IACMAG and British Geotechnical Association Prize from ICE; In 2010, Doctor Randolph won ASCE OTC Hall of Fame Award from ASCE; and in 2011, he got the David Hislop Award from ICE.
