On June 25, President Nghiem Huu Hanh of Vietnam Society of Rock Mechanics (VSRM) visits Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics (IRSM) at the invitation of FENG Xiating, President of International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM). Nghiem also delivers an academic speech in IRSM.

In his speech, Nghiem introduces the research of rock mechanics in Vietnam. He focuses on the evaluation standard of rock properties. Nghiem refers that the main problem of rock and soil engineering in Vietnam is the slope landslide and tunnel stability, especially the landslide caused by rain. Due to the old research and equipmentsthe shortage of mechanics talent training experts, the research of rock mechanics mainly uses numerical method. Nghiem hopes that they could cooperate with IRSM and Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering (CSRME) in relevant programs in future.

Professor Nghiem Huu Hanh got his PhD of Underground Engineering and Mining in Leningrad Mining University, he has long been engaged in research on rock mechanics and underground engineering. Nghiem is now the president of Vietnam Society for Rock Mechanics. He had worked as director of Vietnam institute of Rock and Soil Engineering, researcher in Vietnam Institute of Water Resource Research, and Guest Professor in Hanoi University of Civil Engineering and Water Resource University.
