On May 13, Professor GE Maochen from Missouri University of Science and Technology visits Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics (IRSM), he delivers academic report with the title Challenges in Rock Mechanics Field in America.
Professor GE Maochen graduated from School of Mining Engineering in China University of Mining and Technology, he achieved Doctor's Degree of Exploration Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. After graduation, Professor GE engaged in the research on AE acoustic emission and microseismic monitoring in Canada and America, he has more than 30 years' engineering experience, and is now serving as the Vice Chairman of America Society of Acoustic Emission.
Focusing on the challenges in rock mechanics development in America, Professor GE delivers a report introducing the research progress in shale gas exploitation, CO2 underground sealing, DUSEL and underground mine safety in America. The report is based on practical engineering, it discusses scientific problems in rock and soil engineering, widenning researchers' horizon; the report also provides examples to relevant researches of IRSM.
After the report, Professor GE answers the questions put forward by audiences. GE is also very concerned about the development of Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, he has a discussion with researchers from the English Version editorial department about the journal development. Professor GE believes that the subject of rock and soil mechanics and engineering in China is in need of an English journal. GE also makes some suggestions on the internationalization of Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.
